Words of wisdom!
Mighty Kumbhakarna was intoxicated, as he marched along King’s highway full of royal dignity. Accompanied by 1000’s of demons, he was covered with shower of flowers thrown from houses lining the way. He saw Rāvan’s abode covered with golden grilled windows & looking beautiful. Entering palace, like Sun enters mass of clouds, Kumbha saw from a distance, his brother seated on throne. Seeing Kumbha, Rāvan quickly rose-up from his seat & brought him nearer to his side
Kumbha offered salutations to his brother & asked why he looked worried, what was the reason & what is to be done? Rāvan embraced Kumbha & offered him excellent seat. Seating himself, Kumbha with his blood shot eyes in anger said-For what purpose I’ve been woken up by you? From whom is the danger & who needs to be killed?
Rāvan with his eyes rolling in annoyance, spoke-O mighty brother! You slept for a long period & in the meantime, Rām has instilled fear in me. He is son of Dashrath & along with Vānar king Sugriva, has crossed ocean & is now cutting short our race. See for yourself, that coming happily by the bridge, the forests & groves of Lankā have been covered with ocean full of Vānaras. They've killed very important demons in battle & seem invincible with no defeat in sight for them. You’ve to help us now
Their destruction is the sole purpose of you being awakened. Rescue me & protect this city of Lankā, where only children & aged are left. For the sake of your brother perform this act which seems difficult to do. I’ve not requested anyone like this ever before, said Rāvan. I’ve great respect & affection for you. In past you’ve conquered celestials & demons in battle. Show your prowess as none can be equal to you in strength
Hearing Rāvan lament, Kumbha laughed at full volume & said-Same bad consequence, which was imagined by us earlier while consulting, is faced by you now, due to your utter disregard of words of your well-wishers. Doer of wicked deeds indeed falls into damnation & so punishment for your sinful act has indeed reached you fast. This course of action was not expected by you & you didn't conceive this consequence, only because of your sheer arrogance of power
He who in power, performs duties to be done earlier at a later stage and does later, what is to be done earlier, doesn't know what a right course is. Action done perversely regardless of space & time, gets spoiled, like offering oblations without making well-prepared fire. He, who acts according to agreement with his counsellors, considering 3 types of duties (conclusion of peace through conciliation, acceptance of allegiance through gift & invasion as method of coercion) & by harnessing 5 types of means (method of initiating an action, personality & material to be worked upon, time & place of action, provision against mischance & chances of success) moves along a right course
What words of wisdom by Kumbha for all of us to ponder & implement in our course of life
