Evil!


Vibhishana said to Rām-Seeing mighty Kumbhkarna with ghastly eyes & a spear in hand, celestials were not able to kill him, confusing him to be Yama, god of death. Afflicted by hunger, he has eaten 1000’s of living creatures. Seeing this, Indra was enraged & struck him with thunderbolt. Kumbha got agitated & pulled out a tusk of Airavata, Indra’s elephant & struck it on Indra’s chest. Burning with rage, Indra went to Brahmā


Indra informed how Kumbha was devouring all living creatures, his assault on celestials, destruction of hermitages etc. If he eats away created beings continuously, this world will become desolate soon. On hearing this Brahmā, called demons & saw Kumbha along with them. He too was frightened, but soon restoring confidence cursed Kumbha & said-It is sure that you were created by your father Visravasa for destruction of people. From now on you’ll be sleeping dead


Humbled by curse, Kumbha fell in front of his brother Rāvan, who said O Brahmā, you’re cutting off a well-grown golden tree just at time of yielding its fruit. It’s not fair to curse your own great grandson like this. Your words can never be in vain & he'll have to sleep, but fix some time for his sleep & waking up. Hearing the request, Brahmā said-He’ll sleep for 6 months & wake for a day. On that day, starved for 6 months, he'll wander & eat living beings at will


Vibhishana said-Rāvan, who is now harassed by your prowess has got Kumbha awakened. He is coming towards us & Vānaras have fled not able to check him. Let all Vānaras be told that Kumbha is kind of machine advancing forward & they'll overcome fear & fight him


Rām said to Nila-Go marshal the entire army, occupy doorways, highways & bridges of Lankā & stand ready for operation. Draw together mountain tops, trees & rocks & let all Vānaras be ready with their weapons. Nila ordered Vānar army accordingly as advised


When people do horrible things, we wonder how this can happen? From where such deviant actions are coming from? Are they by nature evil or they're impelled to be evil by some external Satanic forces?


Gita explains that when we are disconnected from Supreme Lord & we misuse our free will to seek things which are ungodly, then our slide towards evil begins. By repeated indulgence, some people are so engrossed that they commit heinous deeds for which even they don’t feel bad about and justify it as normal


Māya, illusory energy of the Supreme Lord, abets & allures us towards evil. She is strong being energy of Lord. Her purpose is not to delude us but to show dreadful consequences of turning away from God & thus direct us back to him. When we surrender to God, evil loses its power over us


Huge learnings for enterprises & individuals to stick to the guidelines of overall good else the path of destruction is open


daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā

mām eva ye prapadyante māyām etāṁ taranti te

Real compassion! Duryodhana who was hiding inside the lake, became very depressed hearing the bitter words from Yudhisthira, but since there was no alternative, he finally made up his mind to accept Yudhisthira’s challenge & fight.
