Wins & losses!

Indrajit pierced Rām & Laxman with pointed arrows & shouted exultantly. He discharged formidable arrows into vital parts of the 2 brothers, who bounded by network of arrows became incapable of even looking up. Being hit thus, the mighty & courageous archers fell on earth shaking violently like a pair of flag staff freed from their chords

There was not a finger’s breadth on their bodies, which was not lacerated & implanted by arrows. Struck down by the ferocious demon, hot blood gushed out from their bodies, as water comes out of spring. Rām fell first to Indrajit’s golden shafts & his bow was thrown away, bent at 3 places, its string loosened & detached from his grip. Laxman became hopeless about his own life, as he saw his brother fallen on ground

Beholding Rām, Vānaras were in great grief & wept terribly. All including Hanumān gathered around, very disturbed & full of sorrow. Vibhishana along with Sugriva came to that place with all Vānara generals, to grieve. Breathing faintly, bathed in blood, riddled with innumerable arrows, motionless, they lay stretched on a bed of arrows, sighing like serpents, helpless, having little prowess & resembling two golden standards. Vānaras surveyed all quarters in the sky but couldn’t discover Indrajit, veiled by his magic powers

Vibhishana, who knew magic arts too, saw his nephew standing nearby duly hidden by his occult power. Indrajit said to his uncle-The exceedingly strong Rām & Laxman, killers of Khara & Dushan, are now killed by my arrows. Even if they are aided by celestials & demons with the host of sages, they’ll not be able to release themselves from the arrows that paralyses them. These two non-sensical pests, by whom my father is agitated, perturbed & stricken with grief, have been destroyed by me

Speaking thus, Indrajit struck Sugriva, Nila Mainda, Dvivida Jāmbavan & Hanumān with multitude of arrows. He also hit Gavaksha, Sharabha, Gavya & shouted in triumph. Tormenting all, Indrajit laughed heartily & the demons were seized with great wonder at his feat, rejoiced. They cheered Indrajit with a roar, crying “Ram is dead”, who presuming the brothers to be dead returned to Lankā

Vibhishana then spoke to Sugriva, who was frightened, filled with tears, Looking helpless & agitated in grief-Have no fear O Vānara King! Stay this rush of tears. Wars are like this. Victory is not certain. If remnant of luck is on our side, then Rām & Laxman will drive off this loss of consciousness. Those who are devoted to truth & righteousness, there is no fear of death. He then wiped the eyes of Sugriva and consoled him with words of good sense & comfort

Not all is lost till it is lost. Wins & losses happen but what is more important is our endeavor for the cause of truth & righteousness. We are just instruments in the bigger plan & can contribute or stay spectators on the frills. Huge implications to inspire us in our daily lives to contribute in a cause for higher good
