The magnet of falsehood

Demon Vidhyujjiva taking instructions from Rāvan, produced a replica of Rām’s head complete with bow & arrows. Rāvan then entered the Ashoka grove eagerly longing for the sight of Sitā. He saw her seated on the ground with her head bent down, plunged in grief as she was absorbed in the thoughts of her husband Rām. As he approached Sitā, she-demon guards surrounding her, rose and praised him with loud voices & stood apart

Rāvan said audacious words to Sitā-O beautiful one! He in whom you trusted & repelled me when I sought to console you, the murderer of Khara, your husband Rām has been killed in battle. Your roots have been cut-off in all ways by me & your pride has been slain. By your present evil predicament, you’ll become my wife now. Don’t be a fool & give up this resolution as what can you do now with Rām being dead. Become the chief queen over all my consorts & enjoy your new status

O foolish one! With scant virtue & failed purpose, you think yourself as wise? Hear about the dreadful killing of your husband in battle. Rām encircled by an extensive army led by Sugriva arrived at seashore to kill me. As the Sun was going to set, Rām with his army encamped on the northern shore of the sea. The army went to sleep completely fatigued by the course of the journey, was espied by my spies. By my great army led by Prahasta, Rām’s army was killed in the night

The demons wielding harpoons, maces, discus, daggers, sticks, arrows, spears, picks lances, darts, massed weapons, clubs & circular missiles, struck the Vānaras again and again. The impetuous Prahasta, with his steady hand then severed the head of Rām sleeping there, with his mighty sword without a resistance from anyone. Fortunately, Vibhishana was held captive & Laxman along with other Vānaras were made to run in all directions. Sugriva neck was broken & Hanumān’s jaw was shattered & thus both were killed. Jāmbavan body was cut into pieces by sharp edged spears by mighty demons

Mainda and Dvivida - those two great scourgers of their foes, long bodied and foremost of Vanaras, groaning and breathless, their limbs bathed in blood-were cut to pieces at the waist-level, by a sword. Panasa & Kumuda were killed by a hail of missiles

What a deluge of lies told by Rāvan. Will he gain or truth will prevail?

Do we also relish telling of a lie with an assortment of trivial details to disguise the actual truth? Do we pretend to be someone we never are, by projecting a persona larger than ourselves?

Self-deception occurs when we face problems in life but wish them away or deny them, which results in extending denial to others in the form of untruthfulness. The Vedic equivalent would be Ahankara (false ego) & the artificial behavior attributed to it. Yet the whole world operates under the sway of falsehood and truth becomes a distorted casualty

Are we also attracted to the magnet of falsehood only to face distorted consequences at our own peril?

Thoughts pls? #gameoflife
