Overcoming Lamentation!
Seeing illusory slain head of Rām, Sitā was
distraught & sobbing profusely said-O Kaikeyi! Be a fulfiller of your
craving. Rām who was reason for joy to the family has been slain & entire
race has been destroyed by a woman of squabbling nature. You gave clothes made
of bark to venerable Rām & sent him to forest in exile along with me. What
harm Rām has done to you?
Sitā, trembling fell on ground like plantain tree
which is cut-off. After a while she regained consciousness & approached the
illusory head of Rām lamenting, said- O long armed Rām! The pursuer of strong
will! Alas you have been killed & I’ve become witness to your last fate
& have been widowed. It is said that early death of husband is a misfortune
for wife & I’m facing it. Even you, who was intent to protect me has fallen
in great affliction & immersed in ocean of grief, been killed by enemy
O Rām! My mother-in-law, Kaushalya, who cherished
you dearly has been left without a son. It was mentioned even by astrologers
that your life span is long, but their words were wrong. Time, the master of
all beings has brought you to an end. How is it possible that you, who knew the
doctrine of political ethics has obtained unforeseen death? You, who knew the
science of expediency & were indeed skilled in warding off calamities,
still have been snatched away from me by the night of destroying time,
encircling & embezzling you
Leaving alone miserable me, you are lying down
here, embracing earth as your beloved. Your bow, decorated with gold & very
dear to me is lying here. Surely you must have met in heaven your father, King
Dasarath. Why don’t you look at me? Why you don’t reply to me? Remember your
solemn promise at our marriage that you'll never leave me but as you are no
more, take me also with you. Don’t quit & leave me like this. Mother
Kaushalya will only see Laxman at the end of exile out of three of us &
would leave her body too
O Rāvan! Dislodge my head & put it next to
Rām’s. I shall go along with my magnanimous Lord. Sitā was thus tormented with
grief & thus lamented again & again
No doubt when we lose a loved one, it's a cause of
extreme grief & lamentation. Our existence & that of our loved ones can
be wiped out in a moment & reminds us of precariousness of life. By remembering
this, we should feel impelled to focus on things that really matters in our
lives, else we waste it for trivial things & waste the opportunity to put
our lives to best use
Bhagvad Gita expands our vision to explain that we
as soul are eternal beings, who are on a multi-life journey of spiritual
evolution. The higher purpose of this human form of life is to seek enduring
meaning & spiritual purpose of who we really are, who is Supreme Lord &
what is our relationship with him. From where we have come, where we’ll go.
When we evolve spiritually, we can experience sublime peace amid strife and
contribute in the mood of service rather being overwhelmed
