Half-baked effort!
After Vibhishan’s information, Rām proposed following army generals to be tactically placed to take on the enemy. At the eastern gate of Lankā, Nila, the lion among Vānaras surrounded by many, should attack Prahasta. At the southern gate, Angad, the son of Vāli with his mighty army should oppose Mahaparshva & Mahodara. Let Hanumān, son of wind god, with multitude others enter the city thro’ western gate. I, together with Laxman, shall forcibly enter the northern gate, where Rāvan is stationed along with the army
Let the mighty Sugriva, King of Vānaras, valiant Jāmbavan, the king of bears & Vibhishan, occupy the central position of the army. Vānaras should not assume human form in the battle as it would differentiate & recognize them when fighting demons. Only seven of us will attack the enemy in human form, I, Laxman, Vibhishan & his four companions. Having thus instructed all, Rām made up his mind to destroy the enemies & to set out for Lankā with a joyous & exultant air from mount Suvela
But Rām then reflected & said in a gentle voice to Sugriva & Vibhishan-I think we shall ascend high on this Suvela mountain & stay there for the night. We shall see Lankā, the abode of evil-minded Rāvan, by whom my wife was taken away for the sake of his own death, by whom virtue is not understood, good character is not known, noble lineage not seen & by whom contemptible act was done with an inferior demoniacal mind. My anger is increased on hearing the name of this demon & I will see that he is destroyed
Rām then ascended the heights of Suvela followed by Laxman & others. All Vānaras climbed the mountain with the speed of wind. Having ascended the mountain from all sides within no time, they saw Lankā which appeared as though it was hanging in the sky. It was furnished with excellent gates, enriched ramparts & pervaded with demons all over. Seeing the demons, who were craving for war, the Vānaras made various type of noises, while Rām witnessed the scene
The Sun reddened with evening twilight went down & night shined with full moon
This was a tactical move before the onslaught, for all to see & decipher Lankā and its geography and assimilate what is in store for them in the battle. The highs & the lows, the gardens & the palaces and all the details of the city was to be carefully analyzed & behold for next action by the army
This was recce of Lankā
Half-baked efforts, leaving something for chance should not be an option in an important endeavor. This is almost as good as putting no effort at all. Nobody will buy a half-cooked food
