Deception!


Spy Shardula further continued-Rām has filled sea with boulders & rocks & has taken up his position at the gates of Lankā & stands there well equipped with weapons. Having released me, he has arranged the army in the form of Garuda. He is encircled on all sides by the Vānaras & is approaching towards Lankā

Rāvan again asked-Have you spied the army properly? Who are valiant Vānaras among them? Who are difficult to be conquered? Let me analyze their strength & weakness to decide about future course of action. It is necessary to count those who are really yearning to fight the battle

Shardula said-Certainly Sugriva along with son of Gadgada, Jāmbavan are eager. Son of Kesari-Hanumān, Son of Yama-Sushena, Son of moon-Dadhimukha, Created by Brahmā-Sumukha Durmukha & Vegadarshi, Son of Agni-army general Nilā, grandson of Indrā-Angada, Son of Ashwini Kumars-Mainda & Dvinda, Five sons of Yama-Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Sharabha & Gandhamadan. Son of Sun-Sweta & Jyotirmukha, Son of Varuna-Hemakuta, Son of Vasus- Durdhara are all there

Rām, Dasarath’s son, who is well-built like a lion & who has killed Khara, Dushana & Trishana. There is no one on earth who is equal to Rām, who has killed Viradha & also Kabandha, equal to Yama. No man on this earth is able to narrate the qualities of Rām, by whom all the demons at Janasthan were killed. There is Laxman, in the path of whose arrows even Indrā himself could not survive

And there is prince Vibhishana, who having received Lankā (as a gift from Rām) remains devoted to him. I’ve described the entire army stationed at mount Suvela. Now it is for you to decide what remains to be done. Rāvan called his ministers instantly & discussed the details & then entered his palace

Rāvan, the conjurer of tricks, took the sorcerer Vidhyujjiva, along with him & went to Sitā’s place. He ordered Vidhyu to create an illusion to deceive Sitā-produce a head resembling Rām along with his bow & arrows deceptively & present yourself to me. I’ve a plan in mind

Trickery makes a mockery of one’s capability. Lot of people think that influencing others by irrational persuasion, ill-faith & coercion gets advantage, but it works contrary to the objective. Deception, manipulation, exploitation, abuse etc are detrimental to one’s cause in the longer run & demotes his strength

The only use one may have of any coercive technique as per scriptures is for a higher purpose aligned to the instructions of the Supreme Lord & never for any self-gratification

Grudge-The heaviest thing to hold! Asvattāma hurriedly yoked horses to his chariot & set out, as Krpa & Krtvarma anxiously followed him. He soon arrived at Pāndava camp & saw a gigantic being with enormous head with flames emanating from his eyes, nose, ear & mouth   Asvattāma fearlessly attacked that awesome being with his celestial weapons but failed in all his attempt.
