Faith!
As per her plan,
Damyanti called for Sudeva & said-Pls go quickly to Ayodhyā & relay
this message to King Rituparna. Announce that King Bhima’s daughter Damyanti is
holding another Swayamvara tomorrow, so that all princes & kings of world are
assembling at Kundina. The princess of unrivalled beauty will choose a 2nd
husband, for she doesn’t know whether King Nala is alive or not
Sudeva immediately
set out & upon his arrival at Ayodhyā, came before King Rituparna &
related Damyanti’s message exactly as instructed. The King immediately summoned
Bāhuka & said: O charioteer, you’re very skilled with horses. I wish to
attend Damyanti’s Swayamvara after reaching Vidarbha kingdom in a single day
These words entered
Nala (Bāhuka) like a thunderbolt & he felt that his heart would burst due
to pain. He thought that Damyanti must be holding another Swayamvara as she has
become overwhelmed with sorrow, or out of desperation may have devised this
daring scheme to force me to come to her. Nala was in split minds & thought
it is not good for princess to marry again. He decided to go to find true
intentions & said to King that he’ll take him to Vidarbha in a single day
Bāhuka went to
royal stables, selected proper horses for the arduous journey. As he bound them
to chariot, King Rituparna mounted the same, eager to start the journey. They
set out at breath taking speed. Indeed, being urged on by Nala, those horses
suddenly rose into the sky leaving Rituparna stunned with wonder. They
wondered, Bāhuka could be Matali, charioteer of Indra
On the way,
Rituparna saw a Vibhitaka tree & to display his talents said to Bāhuka:
Just witness my great proficiency in making calculations. The leaves &
fruit of this tree lying on ground exceed those on the tree by 101. The tree
holds about 50 million leaves & 2095 fruits. Bāhuka to check the accuracy
stopped the chariot with King’s permission & found the figures absolutely
correct
As Bāhuka praised Rituparna,
the king said that this is not a very great thing, his real talent is gambling
with dice & no one on earth can equal his skills. Bāhuka then made a deal
with the King that he will teach him the art of managing horses & in turn
will learn the gambling skills from him
Rituparna imparted
the complete art of gambling with dice & as soon as this was done, Kali came
out from Nala’s body while vomiting Karkotaka’s virulent poison. Kali had
possessed Nala for a long time & now the tormentor had left. Nala was now
free from Kali’s influence & soon they reached Kundina. Upon King Bhima’s invitation,
Rituparna entered the city & the distinctive rattling of his chariot filled
all directions
Damyanti heard the
rumbling sound of the chariot & remembered how once King Nala commanded the
horses in the similar way as he came to win her. Her heart was now eager to see
Nala
We seek safety &
happiness in this complex world by rearranging things according to our desires &
plans. Alas our desires & plans don’t fructify & we’re then frustrated as
things turn out to be opposite to what we expected. Amid such disappointments,
faith can be a powerful aid. Faith centers on the principle that a divine being
oversees the universe
When we contemplate
on this principle, our mind gradually opens to an empowering possibility. What
seems like a failure is actually a steppingstone for success. Faith opens our
mind to the possibility that what we did not want, or plan could work to our
good
Have faith in
Supreme Lord!
