Destiny!
As sage Yaja poured oblations, a wonderful female child rose from sacrificial fire. She had curly bluish tinged hair, dark complexion, body fragrance of blue lotus & was exceptionally beautiful. A voice from sky announced-This girl will become cause of destruction for innumerable Kshatriyas, headed by Kauravās. She’ll play important role in executing mission of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Sri Krsna, to relieve burden of earth
After hearing this, jubilant Pāncālas roared like lions. Drupada’s wife requested Yaja that the 2 children born from sacrificial fire be known as her own. They consented & did name giving ceremony. Boy was called Drstadhyumna & girl Krsnā (due to her dark complexion & her pure devotion to Krsna) as well as Draupadi
Later, Drona accepted Drstadhyumna as his student & unstintingly taught him entire science of weapons as repayment of half of Pāncāla kingdom he received from Drupada. Drona knew that his student was destined to kill him, but as he considered destiny to be irreversible, he didn’t hesitate to give him lessons
Vyāsdev once again visited Pāndavās as he had previously promised. He discoursed on many topics & during his talks, narrated history of Draupadi
There was once a sage’s daughter who was very beautiful & chaste but due to her past karma didn’t get a husband. She began to perform austerities & soon was able to satisfy Lord Siva by her worship. When the Lord appeared to award her benediction, the girl said that she desires a good & qualified husband. Lord replied-As a result of your austerities, in future you’ll simultaneously marry 5 heroic princes of Bhārata dynasty
Upon hearing this, girl pleaded-I only want one husband & so don’t reward me with 5. Lord said-As you implored me 5 times to give you husband, you’ll have to accept 5 husbands in your next life so that your words may not prove false
Vyāsdev informed Pāndavās that the sage’s daughter has now appeared as daughter of King Drupada & has been appointed by divine authority to become common wife to all of you. Go to the capital of Pāncālas & after obtaining Draupadi as your wife, you’ll experience great happiness
Kunti could understand that her sons were already enamored with idea of having Draupadi as wife. She said to Yudhisthira-I think we should go to Pāncāla kingdom. Pāndavās agreed & bade farewell to their host at Ekchara & set out for Drupada’s capital
Some things are destined in our lives, but not everything. Our relationship with destiny is like wind & sky. Just as the sky determines the range of movement of the wind, not the movement itself, destiny determines the scope of our actions not our actions themselves. Destiny works under Supreme Lord’s will
Rather than resenting destiny for unfavorable things that aren’t in our control, we can focus on favorable things in our control. This can be done easily if we empower ourselves with Supreme Lord, understanding he has a plan & purpose for our life
