Intelligently intelligent!


Minister Yupaksha said to Kumbhkarna-Vānaras, whose forms are as large as mountains are besieging Lankā. There is a tumultuous peril for us from Rām, who is furious on account of his wife Sitā’s abduction by Rāvan. Already a single Vānar set fire to our great city & has killed prince Aksha with his escort of elephants & retinue. Rām is equal to Sun in splendor


Our king who never suffered at hands of gods, demons or danavas, has now suffered at the hands of Rām, who just released him from danger to his life. Hearing about humiliation of his brother in battle, from Yupaksha, Kumbha rolled his eyes & said-I’ll now go & conquer entire army of Vānaras with Rām & Laxman on battle-field and then only I shall go to see Rāvan. I shall satiate demons with flesh & blood of Vānaras and shall drink blood of Rām & Laxman myself


Hearing these haughty words from Kumbha, whose anger increased his ferocity, Mahodara-chief of demon warriors, offered obeisance with joined palms & said-O mighty armed! When you’ve listened to words of Rāvan & considered advantages & disadvantages of matter, afterwards can go to conquer the enemy in battle. Kumbha then prepared to depart to meet Rāvan, surrounded by demons


Some demons went upfront to Rāvan & said-Your brother is awake. Is it your will that he should enter the battlefield from there itself or you desire him to come here & see you first? Rāvan said-I wish to see him first. As demons informed Rāvan’s wish, Kumbha washed his face, refreshed himself. He was hungry & was thirsty and drank 20 000 pitchers of wine & ate tons of food. He then set out slightly inebriated & flushed but full of energy to meet his brother


As he walked, earth trembled with his footsteps. Seeing monster, high as peak of mountain, Vānaras stationed outside Lankā were frightened & sought refuge in Rām. Seeing the colossus appearing like great peak, having a diadem which seemed to touch the Sun with its brilliance, Vānaras were seized with terror & fled hither thither


Rām also saw Kumbha & became vigilant. He then asked Vibhishana about Kumbha, looking like a rainy black cloud-This demon appearing as mountain, who is he? He is looking like a solitary meteor. Is he a demon or spirit? I’ve not seen such a creature earlier at any time. Vibhishana said-He is powerful Kubhakarna, son of Visravasa. He has conquered Yama & Indra in battle There is no other demon as his size. He has conquered 1000’s of celestials, demons, gandharvas serpents & ogres in battle


Do we use our intelligence intelligently? Intelligence means to analyze a situation precisely & then choose the options judiciously. It also means how to use the resources we have for overall good. If one has intelligence but uses it for destruction, it does not only hurt others but hurts self as well. Even if we are not with high IQ, Intelligence is also to use intelligently whatever intelligence we have for higher purpose & be not swayed by others

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made. Real compassion! Duryodhana who was hiding inside the lake, became very depressed hearing the bitter words from Yudhisthira, but since there was no alternative, he finally made up his mind to accept Yudhisthira’s challenge & fight.
