Rāvan ascended his mansion & caught a glimpse of Lankā, with its mountains, groves & forests all covered by countless troops of Vānaras, waiting for war. Seeing the earth made all brown with innumerable screeching Vānaras, he reflected in great perplexity-How can these millions be exterminated? Pondering for long but regaining his confidence & with eyes widened by surprise, Rāvan gazed on Rām & his troops

Meanwhile, Rām delightfully progressed along with the army. He saw Lankā guarded on all sides & thronged with demons. Seeing city decorated with banners & flags, he remembered Sitā with a distressed heart & said to himself-Here is the daughter of Janaka, whose eyes resembles those of fawn, tormented with grief, with a bare ground as her bed & suffering here on my account. Reflecting thus, Rām speedily issued command to the army to destroy enemies forthwith

Hearing words of Rām, the Vānaras vying with one another filled air with their roars, resembling that of a lion. We shall tear asunder Lankā with mountain peaks or with our fists alone, resolved all army generals. Lifting up mountain peaks & huge rocks & plucking various kinds of trees, they stood prepared for the attack. In order to fulfill Rām’s cherished desire, those troops forming themselves in columns began to scale the heights of Lankā, while Rāvan stood gazing

The Vānaras demolished innumerable defensive walls & arches with blows from trees, mountain tops & bare fists. They filled the moats containing water with sand, mountain tops, grasses & logs of wood. The commanders scaled the walls of Lankā, taking with them battalions of Vānaras in millions. The started tearing up the golden arches, broke open the gates & hurled themselves forward springing, leaping & roaring. The shouted-Victory to the mighty Rām & valiant Laxman! Victory to Sugriva protected by Rāghav! and tore up defenses of the city

Generals-Virbahu, Subahu, Nala, Panasa took positions & formed an encampment of multitude divisions. Mighty Kumuda assisted by Prasabha, Shatabali, Sushena seized the east, south & west gates and Rām Laxman & Sugriva the north gate of Lankā. Dhumra & Vibhishana stood by the sides of Rām in protection with millions of others

Rāvan, filled with anger commanded the decamping of his entire army immediately resulting in a tremendous clamor among the demons. Beating with sticks of gold, the demons stirred kettle drums while thousands of sonorous conches blared forth. But the minds of some were muddled for future
