Willpower Muscles!
At noon on the 8th day of the battle, Yudhisthira ordered all Pāndava warriors to attack Bhisma. A very fierce battle took place. Dhristadyumna, Sātyaki, Sikhandi, Virāta, Drupada & many others attacked the Grandsire while Arjun and Draupadi’s sons fought with Duryodhana. Bhima, Ghatotkaca, Abhimanyu contended with remaining Kaurava warriors. The fighting was so fierce that both sides suffered exceedingly heavy losses in this triple encounter
Sakuni’s 6 younger brothers, accompanied by a large army penetrated Pāndava ranks & so Irāvān and his warriors advanced to check them. Irāvān was the son of Ulupi, the daughter of Naga King, Airāvana. She was a widow because Garuda had devoured her husband. Since she was childless & very despondent, her father urged her to approach Arjun, who accepted Ulupi. From their union Irāvān was born
Irāvān’s wicked uncle, Takshaka, hated Arjun & so he would not allow the prince to enjoy any of privileges usually offered to descendants of Nāgas. For this reason, Ulupi had to bring up her son in the nether regions while living practically as an outcast
When Irāvān heard that his father was residing in Indraloka, he went there to see him. While standing before Arjun with folded hands, Irāvān introduced himself, When Arjun understood that the prince was his son, he embraced him with great joy. Arjun requested Irāvān to lend his assistance at the time when the great battle to regain his kingdom would be fought. Irāvān readily agreed to do this & departed for Nāgaloka
Irāvān’s soldiers began to massacre the enemy & so Sakuni’s brothers surrounded Arjuna’s son while riding upon their horses & greatly afflicted him with their lances. While tolerating the pain of his wounds, Irāvān countered with showers of arrows, almost making Sakuni’s brothers fall unconscious. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Irāvān unsheathed his sword. Jumping from his chariot, he rushed at his enemies to kill them
The 6 brothers recovered on time & surrounded Irāvān to take him captive. And yet, Irāvān wielded his sword so impetuously that he cut off many of their limbs, causing 5 of the 6 brothers to fall dead on the battlefield. Seeing this Duryodhana ordered Alambusa to attack Irāvān, who created 2000 fierce Rāksasas by utilizing his powers of illusion
