Fate & responsibility!

When Gāndhāri learnt about Dhritrāshtra siding with his son, she went to him & said: O Lord! Pls remember what Vidura had advised at the time of Duryodhana’s birth. It’s my opinion that you should follow his good council & abandon our wicked son. How can you allow a forest fire to once again be kindled after it had been extinguished with so much effort?

Dhritrāshtra said: If destruction of Kuru dynasty is to take place, then let it happen, for no one can prevent what already has been arranged by destiny. Let Pāndavas be called back so that our son can have his way

Meanwhile, the royal messenger caught up with Pāndavās as they were approaching outskirts of Indraprastha. Yudhisthira listened to message of Dhritrāshtra that he should immediately return to continue the game of dice. Hearing this Yudhisthira was shocked, disappointed & thought that certainly all good & bad results are obtained by will of Supreme Lord. Thus, whether I play dice or not, Fate will bring about what has been destined to occur

Yudhisthira knew that gambling match would prove disastrous but since his uncle had ordered him to return, he agreed to go back. Although they knew about Sakuni’s cheating methods, Pāndavās entered royal assembly as if impelled by Fate. Yudhisthira once again sat down to play at dice board. Sakuni then explained: There will only be one roll of dice & losing party will have to retire to forest for 12 years & live as ascetics, dressed in deerskin. In addition, a 13th year must be passed unrecognized in an inhabited region

If during this time, the losing party is discovered, they must spend 12 more years in exile. Only if they’re able to remain unrecognized for 1 additional year, will they be entitled to regain their rightful share of Kuru Kingdom. As Yudhisthira agreed to this wager, a wave of agitation spread throughout assembly, for everyone felt that doom was in store for greedy Kauravas. Sakuni eagerly picked up dice & after tossing them in a deceitful way he jubilantly declared: I’ve Won!

The vanquished Pāndavās then began to prepare for their exile by taking off their royal robes & putting on deerskin. As Pāndavās were preparing to leave, Dushasana spoke following harsh words within their hearing: Duryodhana is now unrivaled ruler of Kurus. Those who were earlier proud of their opulence & dared to laugh derisively at Duryodhana are now forced into miserable life by hands of fate

People who accuse their deliberate actions on fate and forego their responsibilities are in for a huge backlash. Things go wrong due to our callous & careless actions. Even in case when our past Karma follows us, our only responsibility is to act as per our Dharma & not blame others or fate for the outcome

Our life is what we make of it, so let’s not blame others if we screw it up!
