For a purpose!


As all were thirsty, Bhima reached a spot & said-Just stay here & rest while I go to fetch water, for I can hear aquatic birds chirping nearby. Bhima then came to a nice lake & after bathing and quenching his thirst, brought some water for others. As he returned, he saw them fast asleep upon bare ground which pained him a lot


As Bhima continued to watch over his mother & brothers as they slept, a demon named Hidimb happened to see them. Hungry for human flesh, he commanded his sister Hidimbā to go & kill 5 brothers & bring bodies back for him to eat. However, when she went there, she fell madly in love with Bhima just by seeing him


Hidimbā strongly desired to have Bhima as her husband & decided not to kill Pāndavās. After assuming a beautiful form, she approached Bhima & explained to him that she is sent to kill them but now she is afflicted by cupid’s arrows & desires him as her beau. Bhima said-How I can go with you & leave my poor mother & brothers unprotected? She said not to worry as she'll help rescue them from wrath of his brother


Hidimb meanwhile became anxious as his sister didn’t return & went where Pāndavās were staying. When Hidimbā saw her brother, she advised Bhima that by her mystic power she’ll carry them away thro’ sky. Bhima refused & said he will fight the demon himself. A fierce fight ensued & their shouts and grunts made Kunti & her sons wake up

 

When they saw a young girl sitting next to them, in answer to queries they understood that she had fallen in love with Bhima who was now engaged fighting her brother. Bhima filled with rage lifted the demon, smashed him to ground & killed him. All were elated beholding this wonderful feat


Pāndavās then resumed their journey but Hidimbā followed them. Bhima seeing her got angry, but his brothers restrained him. Hidimbā with folded hands made plea to Kunti asking for her son to marry her. In case there is a danger, she can think of her & she will obediently come to aid. Yudhisthira & Kunti consulted & decided to let Hidimbā marry Bhima. He can stay with her during daytime & return home at night


Bhima agreed to remain with Hidimbā only till she gave birth to a son. Subsequently, a child who was fearful to look at with pointed ears & sharp teeth was born & he grew up within very hour of his birth. His name was Ghatotkacha (pot-headed one). In spite of his ghastly appearance, the son became a favorite of Pāndavās & was almost considered to be their 6th brother. Hidimbā then departed with a promise that she would return if thought of

 

Ghatotkacha was a special creation of Indra for the purpose of becoming a fit match for Karna. Indra knew that Karna would come to possess an invincible, arrow & so he made arrangement to protect his beloved son Arjun in Mahabharat war


Everything that happens, happens for a purpose. The supreme lord makes special arrangement, and we should accept it understanding the bigger purpose of it. Stay patient & realize!

  Make or break!   When Salya agreed to drive Karna’s chariot only on condition that he must be allowed to speak freely whatever he likes, Duryodhana and Karna readily agreed & thus a contract was made.   Krsna’s plan!   As Asvattāma asked Krpa about what happened to his father Drona, with great anguish Krpa said: My dear Asvattāma, your father was killed by Dhrishtadyumna.
